Say it ain't so! Alaina Whitaker is voted off!

In one of the most surprising weeks in Idol history, both Alaina Whitaker and Alexandrea Lushington were voted off. They clearly had the talent to be in the top 12, but as has happened many times before, the fickled audience has voted otherwise. They were clearly schocked at the results, Alaina in particular, who immediately started sobbing and said she couldn't sing the farewell song. After Ryan calmed her down, and with the prodding of her fellow female contestants that stood around her, Alaina belted out the Olivia Newton John song that got her voted off. After hearing it, despite the emotion in her voice, you had to wonder how it could happen. Paula was right though. This is only the beginning for Alaina's career. She's only 17 with plenty of time to mature emotionally and vocally. I think we haven't seen the last of Alaina Whitaker. Best of luck to you Alaina!

Alaina Whitaker makes it through to week 2!

Alaina impressed the judges with her youthful charm and amazing voice. Simon was particularly impressed. Good luck Alaina!

Alaina Whitaker makes it to the top 24!

Though we didn't see much of Alaina at the Hollywood auditions, this confident 16 year-old must have impressed the judges with the same smooth voice and good-looking charm from her Dallas audition. Although she has been compared to Carrie Underwood, it remains to be seen whether she can match her success. We're rooting for you Alaina!

Alaina Whitaker didn’t lack confidence on American Idol last night. When asked if she looks like Carrie Underwood, the 16-year old from Oklahoma responded:

I’d like to think Carrie Underwood looks like me.

We like the confidence - but we loved the voice and the fact that she’s moving on to Hollywood.
